Gael Energy is Founded to Support the Sub-100kw Operations and Maintenance Market

Founded in 2015 by Hamish Campbell, Gael Energy began as a passion project to merge his love of engineering with the burgeoning wind energy sector. Recognising the under-supported small wind O&M market, he began establishing relationships with major manufacturers in the sub-100kw segment, offering top-quality engineering services.

Gael Energy Secures Major C&F Turbine Maintenance Contract in the West Coast and Western Isles of Scotland

Hamish made the decision to leave his offshore career, fully devoting his time to Gael Energy. This significant decision coincided with the company's success in securing a contract to oversee the maintenance of 62 C&F wind turbines situated along the West Coast and Western Isles of Scotland.

Over the next four years, Gael Energy was based in Invergordon and functioned as a dynamic team of two.

At Novar Estate, Gael Energy also achieved a major milestone by replacing the slew ring of a 23-year-old Bonus 600 wind turbine for Ventient Energy, marking their debut in major component works for a significant commercial client.

Furthermore, Gael Energy achieved triple ISO certification from DNV, meeting the standards of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, with the scope of: Provision of wind turbine maintenance and repair including overhauls, upgrades, remote monitoring and inspection and testing services.

Gael Energy Relocates Headquarters and Forms Strategic Alliance with Major Dutch Renewables Maintenance Operator

Gael Energy strategically relocated its headquarters from Invergordon to Evanton, whilst still having access to large laydown areas at the Port of Cromarty Firth and Port of Nigg to accommodate major components such as blades and towers. The new location boasts a fully equipped workshop capable of complete turbine overhauls, slew system repairs, pitch system repairs, blade repairs, gearbox repairs and more.

The relocation was followed by Gael Energy signing a Memorandum of Agreement with Netherlands-based Rengineers. This move saw the companies expand their capabilities in the lucrative O&M market, servicing the vast UK network of onshore wind turbines across a range of different technologies. The strategic alliance saw North of Scotland-based Gael Energy supporting Rengineers in the rollout of their unique, insurance-backed 'Garant' maintenance contract to wind farm operators across the country.

Gael Energy Relocates in Aberdeenshire to Improve Operations and Support Continued Growth

To enhance Gael Energy's capacity for C&F and other wind turbine repairs and upgrades, the team in Aberdeenshire relocated from Mintlaw to Newburgh. The new facility, located just 20 minutes north of Aberdeen by car, includes a large workshop, specialised areas for clean electrical work, and a garage and yard with extensive storage capacity for parts and machinery maintenance.

Gael Energy successfully completed a highly challenging project for Nadara at Lambrigg, near Kendal in England, where they acted as both Principal Designer and Principal Contractor. The project involved replacing a damaged and worn yaw ring on a Bonus 1.3 turbine. Additionally, Gael Energy carried out a complex project for Eneco UK, dismantling a defective SGRE 3MW turbine at Lochluichart Wind Farm in the Highlands.

Gael Energy also secured its first significant onshore wind framework agreement, marking the highest-value contract in the company’s history. The four-year agreement, covering all of Scotland, will see Gael Energy provide major component maintenance, repair, and installation services for a leading player in the renewables sector.

The wind at our backs, the future in our hands.
