Gael Energy Tasked as the Principal Contractor and Principal Designer to Dismantle Defective Major Components at Lochluichart Wind Farm

20th December, 2023

With wind and solar farms strategically located across the UK supplying renewable energy to UK customers for over 10 years, Eneco UK (part of the Netherlands-based Eneco Group), recently approached Gael Energy for assistance to dismantle defective major components on a SGRE 3MW DD turbine at Lochluichart Wind Farm in the Highlands.

Despite lacking prior experience with this specific turbine type and being unable to adhere to conventional disassembly methods due to extent of the defects, we were privileged to be tasked as the Principal Contractor and Principal Designer to carry out the works under CDM regulations. We supplied an in-house SMSTS qualified Site Manager and internally developed the Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and Lift Plans. In the form of crane hire, health & safety representation, and turbine-specific Authorised Technicians, we also brought in contractors and external skill sets.

Hamish Campbell, our Managing Director, expressed, “thanks to the entire project team, the works were completed on schedule and within budget.” He continued, “founded in 2015 to support the small wind O&M market and venturing into Major Component Works in 2022, this represents our biggest and most intricate contract to date – a significant achievement, that demonstrates our capability to handle projects of varying sizes and complexities.”
